This
painting is by local artist Richard Gorsuch, who was made famous
by his committment to his art, which caused him to paint Cannon
Beach's Haystack Rock every day for a year. This painting was
created on a whim that lasted a slow three or four years. Gorsuch
was intrigued by the buzz of the busy times of day at Fultano's,
and sketched out an idea back around 2000 for then-manager David
Johnson, with its depiction of random archetypes of customers
walking in, out of and past Fultano's. Progress on the work
- from napkin to paint - went on for years, and by the time
a finished product was ready, Johnson had already become owner
of the eatery.
Gorsuch
hung it in full view at the restaurant, with the idea of it also
being a marketing symbol for Fultano's. Eventually, Johnson purchased
it. Gorsuch came back, took it away for a small amount of time,
and returned with it framed behind protective glass. The colorful
scene now graces Cannon Beach Fultano's menu and other items from
the restaurant. |
